“Leap and the net will appear” is a quote from John Burroughs that carried me through my doctoral project and captures how I conceptualize therapy. Life presents us with challenges, and therapy offers a way to navigate them—but it requires a leap. As a clinical psychologist, I honor your decision to take that leap towards growth and healing, and I tailor my approach to help you reach your goals.
My fascination with the mind and human behavior began in high school and has only deepened over time. During my undergraduate years, I built a strong foundation in neuroscience, working in a research lab and co-authoring a published paper on the brain's role in food reward efficacy. Five years later, I embarked on the journey to earn my doctoral degree in clinical psychology. Initially, focusing on children and adolescents, my work naturally expanded to include adults, couples, and families. A significant portion of my practice involved trauma work, which led to a specialization in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). While I draw from an eclectic and integrative approach, my foundation rests on evidence-based practices and a realistic, relational connection with the individuals, couples, and families I work with. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, and grief/loss are among my specialty areas, however, if you’re facing an existential crisis, a family dilemma, or a sense of being stuck or isolated, I am here to provide that care to you too.
My personal experiences and perspectives inform my practice—I am not a blank slate. Compassion, mindfulness, and the belief that we can always strive to do better guide both my life and my work. I make attempts to practice and not to preach. I respect that you are the expert on yourself or your child and join alongside to serve as an expert in emotional and mental health. During our time together I may also join you in a conversation about food, travel, or pets—I currently foster kittens but have had pets ranging from rabbits to rats.
My roles through the decades have varied from individual & group therapist, inpatient and day treatment clinician, director of behavioral health departments, provider of clinical supervision to other therapists, adjunct professor and consultant to organizations. I understand the desire to do more and the struggle to balance career, life and family.
With more than ten years in community health care and 15 years in public education, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from elementary-aged children to seniors. Each person I’ve worked with has taught me something valuable, and I carry that experience forward in my practice. I am well-versed in medical and physical conditions, as well as special education and learning issues, enabling me to support your healthcare or educational journey with a wealth of knowledge.
